Finished cover
„Kockás” was a popular Hungarian comics magazine, which published Hungarian and French comics between 1981 and 1992.The magazine was relaunched on 15 December 2017.
Most of the comics published were from the French magazine Vaillant. The story of „Kockás” started with a trial issue in 1981. Hungarian readers were first introduced to Pif and Hercule and the adventures of Rahan. The magazine ceased publication in 1992.
It was officially re-launched on 15 December 2017 and has since been at issue 114.
This time – unusually – I was asked to do the cover for the Birthday special edition of „Kockás”. The publisher decided that our francophone heroes should appear in a typically Hungarian setting – on a site, next to a building. This year the Széchenyi Chain Bridge was chosen. In addition to Pif and Hercule, a third character is also included. He is François Corteggiani, a French comic book writer who died tragically in 2022 and to whom our heroes owe many of their adventures. The cover is a tribute to him.
